Citi FM and Channel One TV have officially launched their extensive coverage plan for the 2024 General Elections.
This comprehensive coverage will feature in-depth analysis, live updates, and special programming designed to deliver accurate and timely information to the public throughout the election period.
The initiative highlights the media house's dedication to fostering transparency and informed decision-making among voters.
During the launch on Tuesday, Vivian Kai Lokko, Head of News for Citi FM/Channel One, outlined the TV programming that will include shows such as 'The Point of View (PoV),' 'Face to Face,' 'The Cituation Room,' 'What the Papers Are Saying,' 'The Constituency,' and 'Channel One Community Forum,' all aimed at in-depth election coverage.
She also introduced additional election-focused news programs including Channel One News Room and News Feed.
For radio coverage, Mrs.
Lokko announced that 'Citi Breakfast Show,' 'Eyewitness News,' 'Citi Prime News,' 'Citi Breakfast News,' and 'Ballot Box' will provide extensive coverage of election events.
Bernard Avle, General Manager of Citi FM/Channel One TV, expressed confidence in the organization's ability to deliver exceptional election coverage. "Our goal is to ensure that every citizen has access to reliable information, enabling them to make informed choices at the polls.
We assure you our coverage will be informative, interactive and insightful," he stated.
To combat misinformation and disinformation, Mr Avle said the organisation's teams of forensic journalists and experts would continue to rigorously verify claims and viral content to ensure accuracy and combat misinformation. "We use data analysis, video verification, and transparent methods to make fact-checking easy to understand for all citizens," He added.
The General Manager of Citi FM/Channel One TV further noted that their interactive platform empowered citizens to share their stories, experiences, and perspectives on the election. "We encourage citizen journalism by providing a platform for individuals to contribute to the reporting process and amplify their voices.
Our platform fosters community engagement by creating spaces for citizens to connect, share ideas, and build relationships," he stated.
Mr Avle again indicated that Channel One TV and Citi FM would continue to create engaging explainer videos, infographics, and interactive content to make electoral laws, principles, and procedures accessible. "Our approach makes complex information understandable and enjoyable for all citizens, regardless of their background or prior knowledge," he stated.
Adding "Empowering voters with accurate information and a clear understanding of the process allows them to participate confidently and contribute to a fair election."
