Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director, Ibrahim Sannie Daara, has hailed CK Akonnor's move to Kenyan giants Gor Mahia as a strategic opportunity that could benefit Ghanaian footballers.
Speaking to Luv FM, Sannie Daara emphasised that Akonnor's appointment as head coach of Gor Mahia could pave the way for a new wave of Ghanaian players to join the East African powerhouse, particularly as the club eyes participation in future FIFA Club World Cup tournaments. "They've seen that there are lots of opportunities for them to also make money via the Club World Cup," Sannie said. "So they'll be counting on CK to find them not only talents in Kenya but also talents outside Kenyaâparticularly in Ghana.
They'll be targeting Ghanaian players for recruitment." He expressed confidence in Akonnor's eye for talent, stating, "He knows football talents when he sees one, and I know he'll be able to find some within the Kenyan sphere to deliver." Akonnor, who signed a two-year deal with Gor Mahia, will be assisted by Bismark Kobby Mensah and former Black Stars goalkeepers' trainer Ben Owu.
The trio brings a wealth of experience, with Akonnor having previously coached Ghana's national team as well as clubs like Asante Kotoko, Hearts of Oak, Dreams FC, and Sekondi Eleven Wise.
