Acting Director-General of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Abraham Amaliba, has expressed dismay over the sharp increase in road accidents in the country.

Reacting to the unfortunate accident which occurred at Obogu along the Accra-Kumasi highway that claimed 16 lives and other recent crashes, in an interview with GhanaWeb on August 4, 2025, he noted that the carnage on our roads has reached alarming rates, and hence decisive steps need to be activated to curb the canker. "Transport is to assist human beings to reach their destinations, transport is not to facilitate people's deaths.

Unfortunately, what we have realised is that the numbers are becoming staggering and mind boggling. "Yes, in transportation you cannot entirely rule out accidents but the rate at which it is happening is mind boggling," Abraham Amaliba decried.

Preliminary checks by our department in connection with the brutal Obogu accident revealed that the crash occurred due to driver indiscipline and to some extent driver fatigue.
