Acting Director-General of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Abraham Amaliba, has cautioned motorists to desist from taking caffeinated drinks and in some cases hard drugs to stay awake during long hour journeys.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb on Monday August 4,2025, he advised motorists to park at safe spots and rest when they are tired from driving for long distances.

He urged both private and commercial drivers to stop taking hard substances under the pretest of staying awake while they are on the road; stating that substances in some caffeinated drinks and some drugs impair their vision, sometimes leading to accidents on the road. "I am advising drivers to desist from taking caffeinated drinks and hard drugs.

This impairs their vision sometimes, which sometimes lead to major accidents on our roads," Amaliba said.
