The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has created a specialised Infrastructure Department as part of its Competitions and Events Division, in a drive to ensure all Member Associations can host international matches on home soil.
The new unit, which operates under the vision of CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe, will support Member Associations on football infrastructure projects ranging from construction of new stadiums to the renovation and approval of existing facilities.
CAF has appointed a Senior Infrastructure Manager to lead the department's work and urged associations to collaborate with the team early to guarantee that projects meet CAF and FIFA standards.
By centralising technical support and streamlining the inspection process, CAF hopes to address long-standing infrastructure gaps which have forced several countries to play "home" matches in neutral venues.
