A mother of seven is fighting for her life after being struck by a stray bullet during a violent confrontation between military personnel and residents of Saamang, a community in the Fanteakwa South District of the Eastern Region on The victim, identified as Janet Koh, a trader, was caught in the chaos as tensions flared between the youth and soldiers allegedly deployed to protect Kibi Goldfields Limited, a mining company accused by locals of operating within the buffer zone and main course of the River Akusu, a river considered sacred by the community, according to a report by citinewsroom.com.
Per reports, residents had earlier halted the company's mining activities along the riverbed.
In response, military officers believed to have been called in by the company stormed the area and arrested two youth leaders associated with the protest.
The arrests triggered further agitation.
