Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has underscored the urgent need for a lasting solution to the worsening state of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

Following an inspection of the facility on Tuesday, Ampofo Ankrah expressed concern over the stadium's rapid deterioration, noting that past attempts to address the issues have been limited to short-term measures that fall short of both domestic and international standards. "The issue obviously is long-term.

We've been doing short-term back and forth," he said. "Long term, what can be done to ensure that not just that portion of the stadium, but the entire stadium is brought up to scratch?" He revealed that a major renovation is being considered after Ghana's 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The planned revamp aims to restore the historic stadium to its former prominence. "For now, the idea is to have a comprehensive revamp after the qualifiers.
