One of the legal representatives of Paul Adom-Otchere, Lenin Anane Adjei, has disclosed that the arrest and detention of his client by the Office of the Special Prosecutor forms part of calculated attempts to gag journalists.
According to lawyer Anane Adjei, Adom-Otchere, a journalist, has been targeted by the Special Prosecutor following his continuous scathing criticism of the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng.
In an interview with CitiNews, Anane Adjei stated that the OSP's decision to deny his client bail and the dynamics surrounding his detention set the tone to prohibit journalists from interrogating critical issues.
He said, "We find what the OSP has done completely out of place, unprecedented, and no well-meaning Ghanaian should endorse it, especially for journalists, because it is setting the tone to get people to keep quiet when issues in respect of their operations come up for interrogation." This sentiment, expressed by lawyer Anane Adjei, is directly linked to the work of his client, who is a seasoned journalist with extensive experience.
