A high-profile delegation from the United States, led by Mayor Van R Johnson II, President of the African American Mayors Association (AAMA), arrived in Ghana for a historic visit to the motherland on July 25, 2025.
This marks their first official trip to Ghana, symbolising a renewed commitment to cultural, economic, and diaspora engagement between African Americans and the African continent.
The delegation paid a courtesy call on Ambassador Nancy Sam, the Tourism Ambassador for Miami, Florida USA, who received and hosted the team upon their arrival in Accra, Ghana.
Ambassador Nancy Sam, who also serves as President of Women in Tourism Ghana and Vice President of the ECOWAS Tourism Private Sector Confederation, welcomed the mayor and delegation with a special royal Ghanaian dinner to celebrate their arrival and heritage connection. "It is an honour to welcome our brothers and sisters home.
