The Northern Development Forum (NDF) has called for cessation of all forms of violence in Bawku and Nalerigu. This is amidst the ongoing conflict in the two areas that have left three students from the Bawku Senior High School and Nalerigu Senior High School killed. The three students who were identified as Gideon and Lukman from the Nalerigu SHS and Mohammed Imoro Hakim from Bawku SHS, were shot by unidentified gunmen on Saturday night in two separate incidents after they stormed the dormitory and opened fire. The NDF, in a press statement issued and signed by its Chairman, Major Albert B.

Don-Chebe (rtd) and copied The Ghanaian Times yesterday, described the incident as unacceptable, and therefore condemned it.According to the NDF, the ongoing conflict in the two regions, including the killing of the three students, did not only pose a threat to the peace and security of the country, but retarded national growth and development."The Northern Development Forum (NDF) expresses deep sorrow and concern at the dreadful escalation of violence in the Upper East, particularly in Bawku and Nalerigu in the Upper East and North East Regions respectively," the statement said."When students, our future, become victims of unrestrained violence, we must together, with the backing of all Ghanaians, assert that enough is enough.

Please let the guns stay silent!

Stop the killing!!" it empathised."We appeal for the cessation of all forms of violence and implore all stakeholders, particularly, Nayiri, the overlord of Mamprugu, and Zuraan, the overload of Kusuag, to call for restraints among their respective communities while actively engaging in the pursuit of enduring peace, spearheaded by Otumfour Osei Tutu II," it added. The NDF further appealed to the individuals in the five northern regions and other relevant stakeholders to support the various initiatives and measures that had been put in place by the government to restore peace and security in Bawku and Nalerigu."We are ready, prepared, and willing to devote all our energies to end this unpalatable spectacle which is most disconcerting to all advocates of Northern Development," the statement said. The NDF extended its sympathy and condolences to the bereaved families of the three students who were shot by the unidentified gunmen.BY TIMES REPORTER
