The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has strongly stated that it will not tolerate any form of disruptions intended to thwart its peace enforcement operations in Bawku and its surrounding areas.
In a statement issued on July 29, 2025, (Capt) VA Arhin, the Acting Director General Public Relations indicated that his outfit will not condone any acts that will mar their operations intended to foster peace in the region. "The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to appeal to all well-meaning Ghanaians, particularly the good people of Bawku, Binduri, Nalerigu, Zebilla and its environs to cooperate with the security forces. "Any attempt at distracting the operations and activities of the force in place including attack on the security personnel will be met with appropriate response," the statement said in part.
His remark is in line with an announcement by the GAF which stated that a directive from His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, Commander-In-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, has ordered the force to immediately transition from peacekeeping to peace enforcement operations in Bawku and its neighbouring towns.
This shift to a more robust approach has been deemed necessary due to persistent activities by armed persons, which have led to intermittent violence, reprisal attacks, and the tragic loss of innocent lives.
