President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has backed the Black Queens after finishing in third place at the just-ended 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) tournament.

After a rocky start, Ghana defeated South Africa on a penalty shootout to clinch a bronze medal for the first time since 2016.

Following a visit to the Jubilee House on Tuesday, Mahama praised the team for their effort and encouraged them to stay focused. "All is not lost yet, your best days are still ahead of you, there are many other games to play, and I am sure that this is an experience that you will take as part of the conditioning to rise to higher heights, and so we are all going to support you," he said.

The Black Queens kicked off their tournament with a defeat against South Africa before drawing with Mali.
