Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has admitted that the road to the party's flagbearer slot will be a challenging one-but says he's fully prepared for it.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, after the NPP officially opened nominations for its 2026 presidential primaries, Agyepong was candid about the competition he faces. "It's going to be tough-I'm not making any bones about it," he said.

Referring to the presence of heavyweights in the race, Agyepong acknowledged that one of his opponents, widely believed to be former Vice President Dr.

Mahamudu Bawumia, brings considerable political visibility and experience to the table. "One of my competitors has been a vice president, he's been at the top for 16 years, and he enjoys significant visibility and name recognition," Agyepong noted.
