The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has announced the first death from mpox, also known as monkeypox, since the disease was first detected in the country in June 2022.

This news comes as the nation faces an increasing number of infections, with 23 new cases confirmed in the past week alone.

The new cases have raised the total number of cases to 257, according to a post on X by Sikaofficial on July 28, 2025. "Ghana has reported its first death from mpox since the disease was initially detected in the country in June 2022, according to a statement from the Ghana Health Service.
