Black Queens midfielder Alice Kusi expressed her delight after being named Woman of the Match in Ghana's third-place victory over South Africa at the 2025 Women's Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Kusi played a crucial role in Ghana's 4-3 penalty shootout win over Banyana Banyana following a 1-1 draw in regulation time, helping the Queens secure their first WAFCON medal since 2016.
The result was a major boost for head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren and his young squad, who showed resilience after falling behind late in the first half. "I'm really excited to be woman of the match," Kusi said. "I'm happy we didn't go home empty-handed.
We couldn't reach the final but we're going home with something." Ghana created early chances, with Doris Boaduwaa firing over from close range and Kusi narrowly missing from a Portia Boakye corner.
