Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren says he is full of excitement about the direction Ghana's women's national team is heading after clinching bronze at the 2024 CAF Women's AFCON in Morocco.
Following a spirited 4-3 penalty win over South Africa after a 1-1 draw in regulation time, Bjorkegren praised the youthful energy and potential within his squad. "It's huge.
It's going in the right direction," he said. "We are going to look at the local market, some of the young players.
In this tournament, I think we had 20 of 24 players who played in their first AFCON⦠we need to give them time." He added, "I'm really excited for the future, and I have got to keep working hard with the coaching team." This year's bronze medal is Ghana's best AFCON result since 2016, and the performance of the largely inexperienced squad has given fans real hope for the future.
