Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo, is preaching caution as he seeks to bounce back from their recent 1-0 loss to Angola in the ongoing 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The senior national team prepare to face Niger on matchday two against Niger on Monday.
Though he is confident his team is the favourite in this tie, Addo admitted that he did not anticipate the result against Angola, hence Niger should not be underrated. "I never thought we would lose this [Angola] game," he said. "But in football now, there is no weak opponent.
We saw it last time against Angola - the way the game looked - anything can happen." Looking ahead to the clash against Niger, he is optimistic about Black Stars' chances but cautioned against complacency. "This game, we are surely the favourites and I am very, very confident that we will win," he said. "But in football, anything can happen.
We have to be focused, we have to be concentrated, we have to do our job.
Then the probability that we win is very, very high." Despite Niger's recent close losses, he acknowledged the quality of their squad, emphasising the need for the Black Stars to remain vigilant. "They have good players and they play well together as a team.
They have good strikers, they defend very well, and tactically, they are well-educated," he observed. "It's not going to be easy, but I'm sure that if we do our best and create as many chances as we did against Angola, we will force the luck to come back to us." The Black Stars are set to face Niger at the Stade Municipal Berkane, hoping to secure their first win in the qualifiers and strengthen their chances of qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations.
