Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has indicated that a nursing mother living at the Ramsar Site in Sakumono will be temporarily spared from the ongoing demolitions.
Speaking during a follow-up inspection at the encroached Ramsar lands, Madam Ocloo said, although the structure in question is illegal, authorities have decided to offer some leniency out of compassion for the occupant's situation. "Not D.S.
because I mean you can see that she's a nursing mother and so we want to pardon her," the Minister said.
She explained that her team is currently looking for alternative accommodation to house the woman and others in similar circumstances before the demolition of their structures can proceed. "We look for chamber halls, health content for them so that they can stay in for the time being before we think of… demolishing the place," she noted, stressing that the long-term plan is to fully clear all structures erected on protected lands.
