President Chakwera will present his nomination papers on the last day, July 30, while the other candidates will submit theirs within the set dates.
Other notable candidates include the incumbent vice president Michael Usi, former vice president Cassim Chilumpha and Atupele Muluzi, son of the country's former president Bakili Muluzi.
In total, there are six independent presidential aspirants and 14 candidates backed by political parties.
The number of presidential hopefuls is likely to rise, as MEC's window for collecting nomination papers remains open until July 30.
