Member of Parliament for Oforikrom, Michael Aidoo, has urged former President John Dramani Mahama to prioritise the completion of abandoned sports infrastructure before committing to new stadium projects.

The MP, speaking in an interview with Citi Sports, was reacting to President Mahama's recent announcement that six new stadiums would be constructed across Ghana's six newly created regions.

The announcement was made during the Western North Region stop of Mahama's ongoing "Thank You Tour." While Aidoo welcomed the promise of new sports infrastructure, he stressed the need to address ongoing projects that have been left unfinished.

He noted that many youth resource centres, including the Nyinahin Sports Centre, are at various stages of completion but have been neglected. "We have ongoing projects such as the Nyinahin Sports Centre and other facilities… where some have reached about 95% completion, some 70%, some 45% across districts in the country," Aidoo said. "It was my hope that the government in its first year would look at completing some of these so that we do not go into the conundrum of the continuous disbandment of projects." His comments echo similar concerns raised by Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams, who recently visited Nyinahin and expressed disappointment over the stalled development at the facility.
