Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has assured Ghanaians that while the overall security of the nation remains stable, government is closely monitoring the volatile situation in Bawku and Alavanyo.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series at Jubilee House on Monday, July 21, Dr Boamah said the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have been tasked to remain vigilant and act swiftly to prevent any escalation of violence in these areas. "While Ghana's internal and external security remains largely stable, we acknowledge that the situation in Bawku and Alavanyo, and their surrounding communities, remains quite volatile," he stated.
Robust Security Measures in Place According to the Minister, the Armed Forces have activated land, maritime, and air security operations nationwide.
Specific interventions are in place in conflict-prone areas like Bawku and Alavanyo to ensure rapid responses to any incidents. "The Armed Forces are actively monitoring developments and have put in place robust mechanisms to ensure that any potential escalation is swiftly contained," he said. "Our goal is a peaceful and lasting resolution through dialogue." Dr Boamah stressed that government is committed to distinguishing criminal activities from legitimate traditional issues, especially in areas experiencing chieftaincy conflicts. "We will always separate crime from traditional issues.
