The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Justin Frimpong Kodua, has urged individuals who intend to contest the upcoming flag bearer position to respect party structures and uphold the rules governing the party. He said the party was unhappy about how key personalities thronged the Ablekuma North constituency to campaign for the party, despite the party's announcement of boycotting the elections."Let us all understand that today we are national officers of the party.

We are Members of Parliament, we are members of the Council of Elders.

But people have occupied these positions before, and therefore, those who have intentions of aspiring to lead the party, be it as flag bearer, be it as national officers, we must understand that our interest cannot override the supreme interest of the New Patriotic Party."Therefore, any person who had any intention to lead our party should respect the structures of our party, and respect the authority," he said.Speaking at the 2025 National Delegates' Conference, last Saturday held at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, Mr Kodua said the National Executive of the party was dissatisfied with the decision of the Electoral Commission, as all evidence available came to the firm conclusion that the NPP has won the election. He urged party membership to desist from campaigning for those who aspire to lead the party in the 2028 presidential election, as such development undermines the strategy, rebuilding and transforming the party as the filing of nominations has not been opened. He said the party's decision not to participate in the 19 polling stations rerun was because the party had all its pink sheets, which revealed that they had won the Ablekuma North seat."We had all scanned copies of our pink sheets in the 281 polling stations, which gave us a clear win of 414 votes.

And therefore, we were surprised that the EC decided to call for a rerun."We felt that it was a wrong decision and is a bad precedent being set by the Commission, which is very dangerous for our future politics and future elections," Mr Kodua said.He reiterated that until the party officially opens for the filing of nominations for the flag bearer elections, no individual should be allowed to campaign or welcomed by the grassroots and executives of the party to campaign.Mr Kodua said the National Council, after several deliberations, engagements, and consultations, had given the directive that on January 31, 2026, the party shall hold its presidential elections, stressing that it is something that should be fully supported by all members of the party." It is for good reasons that as a party, as we prepare for the 2028 elections, we need to quickly do away with all our internal elections, so that you have enough time to unite as a party to prosecute the agenda of winning the elections in 2028."Let us continue to deny people from coming to our regions and our constituencies, because we must be a disciplined party, and anyone who wants to lead the party must also exhibit discipline," he said.Mr Kodua said the party had not long ago also established what is referred to as the Patriotic Institute, stressing that, it was a game changer that was going to train and give orientation to all rank and file for the communicators to understand and appreciate the history and ideology behind the NPP.
