It is a known fact that Dr Joseph Boakye Danquah, one of the leading figures of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC), was opposed to the way Ghana's first President, Osagyefo Dr , wanted Ghana to attain independence.

While Dr was fighting for "self-government now", Dr JB Danquah was for "self-government at the shortest possible time," and he (Danquah) did all he could to ensure that the country got independence.

History shows that Dr Danquah wrote a letter to the late Queen of England, Elizabeth II, who was the Head of State of Ghana then, urging her not to assent to a law which would make Ghana a republic.

The founding member of the UGCC, it appears, even campaigned against Ghana's Republican Constitution.
