President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that the Chinese government is providing a grant for the construction of a new modern market in Aflao, a key border town in the Volta Region.
The announcement was made during the sod-cutting ceremony for Phase Two of the Blekusu Sea Defence Project, held in the Ketu South Municipality.
The President explained that the upcoming market forms part of a broader development strategy focused on reviving local economies, especially those impacted by tidal waves and border-area neglect.
Mahama emphasized that the new market is not just about infrastructure, but also about empowering local traders and supporting livelihoods. "The people of Aflao deserve a safe and modern trading environment," he stated. "Thanks to the generous support of the Chinese government, construction of the new Aflao market will begin soon to address the infrastructural needs of this critical border town." He described the grant as a symbol of strong cooperation between Ghana and China, praising it as a timely intervention for Aflao's residents and businesses.
