The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has disclosed that the government has begun processing salary arrears for 321 Pharmacist House Officers who completed their training in 2024.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on July 18, 2025, he said the move is part of efforts to address long-standing challenges within the health sector, particularly issues relating to the employment and welfare of trained professionals. "Government has taken decisive steps to clear the salary arrears for the 321 Pharmacist House Officers, and payments are currently being processed," he stated.

Akandoh also noted that 1,621 qualified pharmacists are currently awaiting permanent employment.

According to him, recruiting these professionals remains a key priority for the ministry as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the country's health workforce. "This is just one example of our broader commitment to clearing the backlog across all health worker cadres, ensuring every qualified professional has the chance to serve and strengthen Ghana's health system," he said.
