The Dansoman Circuit Court has sentenced a 39-year-old taxi driver to 12 years' imprisonment for defiling a 14-year-old girl at Mataheko, near Dansoman, Accra.
Although Ammisah pleaded not guilty, the court presided over by Halimah Al-Alawa Abdul-Bassit found him guilty after trial and imposed the custodial sentence.
In his defence, Ammisah told the court he had a cordial relationship with the victim's mother and had once expressed romantic interest in her, which she declined.
He claimed that despite the refusal, they remained friendly until he began mocking her for dating an older taxi driver, leading to a breakdown in communication for the past two years.
