The Chief Executive Officer of Databank Ghana, Kojo Addae Mensah, has urged local football clubs to improve player salaries in a bid to enhance the welfare of athletes in the country.
His comments follow the Ghana Football Association's introduction of a new Standard Player Contract (GSPC), which is scheduled to take effect from the 2025/26 season.
Speaking to LUV FM, Addae Mensah stressed that clubs in the Ghana Premier League should be able to pay players a minimum monthly salary of $200.
He described the figure as both reasonable and achievable, in line with what is expected in any serious professional football setup. "At the national level itself, our salaries are low and that's why it's so important that we try and inject money into it," he told LUV FM. "But I did some more research around that.
