Bono East Regional Secretary David Boakye has weighed in on the drama that ensued between Chairman Wontumi and Bryan Acheampong during the NPP's recent National Council meeting.
Referring to the well-known case in which Bryan Acheampong helped secure bail for Chairman Wontumi during his encounter with the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), Boakye made it clear: "Just because you have bailed someone doesn't make him your slave." Boakye added that if the legal conditions had allowed, Chairman Wontumi would have easily met the bail conditions himself. "If the law had permitted Chairman Wontumi to meet the bail on his own, he would have done it," he asserted.
His comments came in response to a heated moment during the party's National Council meeting, where Bryan Acheampong, reportedly irritated by an interruption, snapped at Chairman Wontumi with the words: "Sit down, shut up; I just bailed you." According to Boakye, the remark was sparked when Chairman Wontumi attempted to interject while Bryan was making a submission. "Chairman Wontumi tried to interject when Bryan was making a statement," he explained.
The unexpected exchange left many in the room stunned. "I think there was an element of surprise in the room but again the people couldn't really tell if it was a joke," Boakye noted.
