President John Dramani Mahama has announced the immediate cancellation of all fuel allowances and allocations to political appointees as part of a broader strategy to reduce government spending. According to a directive issued by the Presidency, the move is in line with efforts to redirect public resources into priority sectors that directly benefit the Ghanaian people.
The President emphasized that leadership must share in the sacrifices being asked of citizens during these difficult times.The move is among several recent measures taken to curb expenditure, including a reduction in the size of government through fewer ministerial and presidential staff appointments.
Additionally, satellite television subscriptions at the Presidency and other government offices have been halted.
According to the statement, the decision reflects an attempt by leadership to share in the sacrifices being made by the general population.
