The African Union (AU) has officially extended its theme on Reparations by a full decade, covering the period 2026 to 2036, with Ghana expected to lead as Champion Nation throughout the initiative.

This milestone decision was announced during the AU Mid-Year Review held in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Ghana's Foreign Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, hailed the resolution as a major step forward in the continent's quest for justice, and congratulated President John Dramani Mahama for the trust reposed in him by the 55-member continental body. "Congratulations to President John Mahama for the confidence reposed in him by the 55-country continental union," Ablakwa wrote.

He also shared updates on his own role within the Union, announcing that he had successfully completed his tenure as Chair of the Ministerial Committee on Agenda 2063.
