Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has revealed that more than 500 individuals have been removed from the security services after a thorough review uncovered widespread irregularities in the recruitment process before and after the 2024 general elections.
Speaking at the maiden edition of the Government Accountability Series in Accra on Monday, July 14, 2025, the minister explained that the exercise was aimed at restoring credibility to the security services by ensuring only qualified personnel remain. "We were able to get out about 320 who were not supposed to be there," Muntaka said, specifically referring to recruits into the Police Service.
Some were in their forties, diabetic, and medically unfit, but they were picked.
We had to explain to them that with their condition, they could not remain in the service." He noted that a special committee reviewed the credentials of approximately 5,200 recruits across several key agencies and uncovered numerous cases of forged qualifications and medical ineligibility. "They called and said the person didn't pass SSSCE-didn't even record a single subject," he added. "Once you don't meet the basic qualification, you have to go." The exercise is part of a broader accountability and transparency drive introduced by the Presidency, dubbed the Government Accountability Series.
