Ghanaian forward James Ampofo believes he is ready to take the next step in his football career, earning a call-up to the senior national team, Black Stars, after sealing a move to Norwegian Eliteserien side Strømsgodset IF.
The 21-year-old completed a three-and-a-half-year deal on Wednesday after passing his medical.
He joins from Raufoss IL in Norway's second tier, where he scored six goals and provided one assist in 12 appearances this season. "This is a big moment in my career," Ampofo told close sources. "Playing in a top-flight league has always been part of my plan, and I'm ready to give everything to succeed at this level." With a profile that continues to rise, Ampofo says he is now focused on building consistency and believes a Black Stars call-up would not be out of reach. "I've worked hard to get here, and representing Ghana at the senior level is a dream I've always had," he said. "I know the responsibility that comes with wearing the national colours, and if the call comes, I'll be ready." Ampofo first drew national attention as part of Ghana's U20 team that won the 2021 Africa U20 Cup of Nations.
He featured in the semi-final against Cameroon, showing promise with his energy and attacking movement.
