Former Ghana captain Grace Adjoa Bayor, one of the most iconic figures in the history of the Black Queens, is still serving the national team - this time off the pitch - as the Equipment Manager at the ongoing Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Bayor, who wore the armband at the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup and was named African Women's Player of the Year in 2003, now plays a key logistical role behind the scenes. "I make sure that everything from official match jerseys, training kits, conesâ¦everything is ready and good to go at training as well as on match day," she told CAFOnline. "Planning is very important in this kind of job and there is no room for error whatsoever." Despite her quiet personality, Bayor is known within the Queens' camp for her commitment and high standards. "There are heavy fines for anyone that forgets something or comes late," she said. "This helps with emphasising discipline for every team member." Bayor, who retired in 2011, remains a constant presence in the national team, now lending her vast experience to ensure others succeed.
