The President of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Ghana (IET-GH), Engr Henry Kwadwo Boateng, has issued a call to action to Ghana's next generation of engineers.
According to him, future engineers should build a future rooted in ethics, sustainability, and innovation.
Speaking at the official launch of the IET-GH Student Chapter at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) on July 11, 2025, Engr Boateng urged students to view engineering not merely as a technical profession, but as a moral responsibility to protect Ghana's environment, serve communities, and challenge destructive practices. "We believe in engineering that protects, not destroys," he declared. "And we believe that you, the youth, have the courage to challenge the status quo and engineer a better Ghana." Held under the theme "Engineering the Future, Youth, Innovation, and Excellence," the inauguration ceremony drew participation from academia, industry leaders, and students united by a shared vision of transformative engineering leadership.
The event marked UMaT's formal entry into the IET-GH student chapter network, a growing initiative aimed at grooming responsible and forward-thinking engineers across the country.
