Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has called for a strong national campaign to ensure that police officers consistently wear and use body cameras during operations.
Speaking on The Key Points on TV3 on Saturday, July 12, 2025, Kpebu stressed the importance of body cameras in promoting accountability and transparency, especially during tense situations such as elections.
His comments follow recent disturbances during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun, which reignited public debate about police conduct and the need for surveillance tools. "You see, people have gone back to this request that our police should be using body cams, because they capture everything automatically and continuously if they are working properly," he said.
He explained that body cameras provide a reliable backup when media coverage is limited, adding that many citizens continue to push for their use.
