The Enchi-Asankragwa road in the Western Region has been severely damaged by the activities of illegal miners in the area.
A video shared by Channel One TV on Friday, September 6, 2024, showed the single carriage 56-kilometre road in a deplorable state with portions caved and the concrete rods used as fenders broken apart.
The illegal mining activities have left holes underneath the road unfilled, causing significant damage and almost dividing it into two.
Reconstruction of the road began in 2008 at a cost of ¢152 billion during the Kufuor-led administration and was expected to last for fifteen years.
However, illegal mining activities have compromised the road, underscoring the need for urgent action to stop further destruction.
