A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication team, Hamza Suhuyini, has warned that the Electoral Commission's conduct poses a growing threat to Ghana's democratic integrity, urging urgent reforms before it becomes irreparable.
Speaking on Channel One TV's Breakfast Daily on Wednesday, July 9, Suhuyini welcomed what he described as a delayed realisation by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that the EC's actions are destabilising. "Finally, the NPP has come to accept that this Electoral Commission is a danger to our democratic stability due to its lack of predictability and lack of principles.
There is a need for us to remove that canker before it consumes our democracy," he said.
His comments follow strong objections from the NPP to the EC's decision to conduct a parliamentary rerun in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency.
