The Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has apologised to the general public for his heated altercation with an MTTD police officer, following reports from road users that the officer had been extorting money from drivers at Tudu in Accra.

According to him, he is not targeting the police as some have perceived, but is rather advocating for the right actions to be taken and for security agencies to carry out their duties responsibly. "An incident happened yesterday between the mayor and the police.

I'm not after the police but just trying to let people do the right thing. "If anybody thinks what I did was wrong, I'm apologizing to the Ghanaians," he told the media on July 8, 2025.

Allotey stated that, as part of his office's initiative to clear the streets of unauthorized hawkers and parked vehicles under the 'Move from the Streets' program, the police are expected to ensure strict enforcement and compliance by those operating unlawfully.
