Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has delivered a scathing critique of the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, Nana Akua Afriyie, accusing her of running a superficial and uninspiring campaign.

Speaking on Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Channel One TV on Tuesday, July 8, Gbande said the NPP was underestimating the political intelligence of the electorate by prioritising entertainment and giveaways over real policies. "The NPP candidate [Nana Akua Afriyie] has not demonstrated a lot of competence in her campaign," Gbande argued. "They believe that Ablekuma North is a theatre for dancing, which is how to pull a crowd.

Let's go and dance and share money for people to vote for them." Gbande, who appeared visibly confident about the NDC's chances in the upcoming parliamentary rerun, went on to question Nana Akua Afriyie's integrity and credibility, citing concerns over her past diplomatic role. "She's a character who is under public scrutiny because of her role when she was an Ambassador," he said. "Her activities there, including some allegations of having been involved in visa issues and extortion, continue to hang over her."
