The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has announced that the government will release GH¢4 billion by the end of July 2025 to settle part of the country's mounting road sector debt.
Ghana's total road debt currently exceeds GH¢21 billion, a burden that has significantly slowed progress on critical infrastructure and stalled several ongoing road construction projects nationwide.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Tuesday, the Minister revealed that the Ministry of Finance is at an advanced stage of processing the GH¢4 billion payment, adding that the move demonstrates the current administration's commitment to restoring contractor confidence and resuming stalled works.
He also indicated that the government would begin the first phase of its flagship infrastructure initiative, the 'Big Push,' this month, July. "We have concluded the studies, the design and costing of the first phase of the Big Push project.
