President John Dramani Mahama has declared his firm resolve to combat illegal gold smuggling and corruption in Ghana's mining sector through the launch of a specialized anti-smuggling unit known as the GoldBod Taskforce.

Speaking at the inauguration of the taskforce on Tuesday, July 8, at the National Security Secretariat in Accra, the President stated that the initiative demonstrates his administration's determination to enforce the law and protect the country's natural resources. "The inauguration of the GoldBod Taskforce signals our readiness to act decisively," he stated.

According to the president, the task force is made up of carefully selected personnel drawn from the National Security, the military, and other key security agencies.

He noted that every member of the team has undergone intensive screening processes.
