The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described the Electoral Commission's decision to rerun the parliamentary election in Ablekuma North as "disingenuous and unlawful," rejecting the move in its entirety.
According to the party's General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, on Thursday, July 3, the party condemned what it called a sudden and unjustified reversal by the EC, following an earlier assurance that the results of the December 7, 2024, election were valid. "The EC's sudden U-turn on the Ablekuma North parliamentary election is not only shocking, but it is also disingenuous and unlawful," the party stated.
The Electoral Commission had announced on July 2 that it would conduct a rerun in 19 polling stations within the constituency, citing concerns over the authenticity of the results and referencing extensive consultations.
However, the NPP insists no consensus was reached and that its representatives firmly opposed the rerun during a meeting with the EC on July 1. "The party, thus, completely rejects the decision of the commission to rerun the parliamentary election in the said 19 polling stations," the statement added.
