Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, has sounded the alarm over the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) adoption of a top-down approach in selecting its next flagbearer, cautioning that such a move threatens to erode grassroots participation and deepen internal apathy.
In a detailed letter issued on Wednesday, July 2, the MP argued that this centralised approach undermines the NPP's long-standing democratic tradition.
According to him, the party's electoral victories in 2016 and 2020 were largely attributed to its bottom-up strategy, which ensured inclusive participation and energised its grassroots.
He stressed that this sudden shift, especially in the aftermath of the party's defeat in the 2024 elections, could further dampen morale and engagement at the base level.
