A group of young men in Akoase in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region confronted some Chinese nationals allegedly involved in illegal mining activities, widely known as galamsey.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, was shared on the X page of EdHub.
Footage from the scene shows a heated exchange between the three youth and the Chinese miners, with one of the Ghanaians heard saying, "No more destroying our lands." This development comes in the wake of the arrest of three Chinese nationals, Li Quan, 44, Lu, 36, and Li Xuyu, 47, on July 1, 2025, for allegedly mining illegally along the Subin and Jimi Rivers at Atatam in the Adansi-Asokwa District of the Ashanti Region.
The suspects were arrested in possession of pump action guns during a joint security operation carried out by the Ashanti Regional Police Command and the Minerals Development Fund (MDF), following reports of widespread environmental damage in the area.
