Former Subin Member of Parliament, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has reflected on the presidency of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, stating that the former president's most productive years in office were before the COVID-19 pandemic.
In an interview on Face to Face on Channel One TV on Tuesday July 1, he noted that the period between 2018 and 2020 marked the high point of Akufo-Addo's administration, crediting those years with stronger governance and clearer focus. "We have to be frank with ourselves - the best years of Akufo-Addo's eight years were 2018 to 2020 before COVID struck.
Those were his best years," he said.
Antwi attributed this to the natural pressure that comes with a first-term presidency, where leaders are motivated by the need to secure a second term and are therefore more attentive to public sentiment and governance. "In your first term, you are expected to be voted for your second term, so you are working towards your second term.
