Consumer advocacy group CUTS International has accused the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) of prioritising revenue generation over accountability, following the recent approval of a 2.45% increase in electricity tariffs.
The new tariffs, which took effect today Tuesday, July 1, 2025, apply to all categories of electricity consumers across the country.
Water tariffs, however, remain unchanged for the third quarter.
The adjustment comes as part of PURC's quarterly review, which factors in variables such as inflation, exchange rate fluctuations, natural gas pricing, and the energy generation mix.
