The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has revealed that approximately 240 gold buying licences have been approved following the expiration of the Board's June 21, 2025, transition deadline.
According to him, GoldBod received over 300 applications for the Buyer Licence Tier One, about 200 applications for Buyer Licence Tier Two, and 30 applications for the Self-Financing Aggregator category.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Monday, June 30, Sammy Gyamfi noted that the approvals mark a critical step in enforcing the new gold licensing regime aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and regulatory compliance across the sector.
He stressed that going forward, only entities with valid GoldBod-issued licences will be allowed to engage in gold trading activities, adding that the Board will intensify enforcement to clamp down on unlicensed operations in line with the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140). "The management, with the approval of the board, has approved 240 licenses… When we receive confirmation of payment, we process your license, print it and go through the audit verification process. 123 have been printed and issued."
