The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old woman, Sophia Amankwa, for unlawful possession of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs.

According to a press release signed by ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs, the arrest took place after police intercepted a tipper truck with registration number GW 9768-12 at Dogo Junction/Ada in the Greater Accra Region on June 25, 2025. "A search of the vehicle revealed 3,900 compressed and cello-taped slabs in 52 sacks, suspected to be Indian hemp," the release stated.

ASP Dzakpasu added, "Preliminary investigations disclosed that suspect Sophia Amankwa is the owner of the substances and is currently in police custody, assisting with investigations." She further indicated that efforts are underway to arrest the driver of the vehicle and other accomplices, who fled during the operation.

The Police say they are committed to clamping down on drug trafficking and related criminal activities within the region.
