The Tertiary Education Workers Union of Ghana (TEWU-GH) has given the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) a seven-day deadline to rescind its directive instructing traditional public universities to induct representatives of the Teachers and Educational Workers' Union (TEWU-TUC) onto their Governing Councils.

This ultimatum follows a letter from GTEC dated June 18, 2025, which formally recognized TEWU-TUC as the sole representative body for workers on the Governing Councils of public traditional universities.

According to the directive, all affected institutions must immediately swear in TEWU-TUC representatives and accord them full rights as Council members.

GTEC also warned that TEWU-GH members should no longer act as Council representatives, even if they had already been sworn in.
