The prime suspect in the stabbing of a final year General Arts student of the O'Reilly Senior High School, Edward Borketey Sackey, identified as Godwin, has been remanded into police custody for two weeks by the LA District Court.

He has been accused and charged with murder by the police following the incident.

Family members of both the deceased and the suspect were present in court on Thursday, September 5, 2024, as 's Ishmael Batoma reports.

The case has been adjourned to Thursday, September 19, 2024.

According to 's reporter, the judge explained that the adjournment is to allow the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the events leading to the tragic death of Edward Sackey.

The judge also expressed condolences to the bereaved family, sympathising with them over their loss, he added.

Some family members of the deceased, speaking to , raised concerns about inconsistencies in the police statements on their son's death.

Uncle of the deceased, Mark Adjei, said the victim was stabbed three times, but a police statement claims otherwise, stating that the victim was stabbed only once.

Additionally, he argued that the suspect is 23 years old, but court documents indicate that he is rather 18.

This discrepancy has raised concerns from Edward Sackey's family. "Since the police says they still have investigations to do, I think we can't do anything but we will make sure to follow up for the right thing to be done.

For the information, not all was said; he wasn't stabbed once, he was stabbed thrice.

He said [prosecutor] he was stabbed at the lower chest but he wasn't stabbed once, it was thrice.

And I expected that maybe he could have expressed more to the judge to understand what really happened. "Secondly, the age that came to us was around 23 years, so I don't know why now the age is 18 years but even 18 years does not even stop him from going to jail," he said.

Meanwhile, the family of the accused has expressed their sorrow and apologised to the victim's family for the tragic incident.
